Email and SMS

Your best clients forget you after 6 weeks

Getting a new client costs time and money. Keeping her costs almost nothing, if the right message arrives at the right time. Yet most salons never write to a client again after the visit.

Short answer

Set up three automatic messages: a reminder the day before the visit, a thank you with a review link two days after, and a rebooking message five to six weeks later. Set it up once and it works every day.

Message 1: the reminder, 24 hours before

A short SMS the day before: time, address and a link to move the appointment if something came up. It reduces no shows, and clients who need to move the time do it in advance instead of not showing up.

Example: "Hi Anna, see you tomorrow at 14:00 for brows with Maria. Need to move it? Use this link."

Message 2: thank you and a review, 2 days after

Two days after the visit, ask how it went and add a direct link to your Google review page. Reviews are one of the strongest signals for being found on Google Maps, and most happy clients simply forget to leave one unless you ask.

Example: "Thank you for visiting us, Anna. Happy with your brows? A short review on Google helps us a lot."

Message 3: rebooking, 5 to 6 weeks after

This is where most of the money is. Lashes, brows, nails and haircuts all have a natural interval. A message at the right time, with the same treatment and the same staff member, brings clients back before they try someone else.

Example: "Hi Anna, it's been 6 weeks since your last visit. Want your usual time with Maria next Thursday?"

How to set it up

  • Check what your booking system can send already, and turn it on.
  • Write the three messages in your own tone. Keep each under 300 characters.
  • Add the rebooking and review steps with a simple automation if your system cannot do it.
  • Look at the numbers after a month: no shows, new reviews and rebookings.

Questions

Email or SMS?

SMS is read faster and works well for reminders. Email is better for longer messages and offers. Many salons use SMS for the reminder and rebooking, and email for news.

Is it allowed to send these messages?

Messages about a booked appointment are part of the service. For marketing messages, like offers, Norwegian rules require consent from private persons, so ask for it when the client books.

Do I need a new booking system?

Often not. Many booking systems can send reminders already. The rebooking and review messages can usually be added on top.

How personal should the messages be?

Use the first name, the treatment and the staff member if you can. Short, friendly and with one clear link works best.
